Burn Camp planning and preparation falls on the capable shoulders of the Oklahoma Firefighter’s Burn Camp Executive Board. The “E-Board” is comprised of 6 individuals who share a zest and passion to produce a camp experience like none other. This endeavor is accomplished with their leadership and drive for success.
Scotty Stokes, Camp Director – Has worked in the Fire Service for more than twenty years; he has been a firefighter/paramedic with Tulsa Fire department since Oct, 1995. Scotty promoted to Captain in 2008 and works on Engine Company 29 B-Platoon. In 1995 as a Fayetteville, Arkansas Firefighter he began volunteering for Camp Sunshine (Arkansas Burn Camp). In 1999 he started Oklahoma’s first Burn Camp and has served as director ever since.
Jennifer Knowlton, Assistant Director - Has a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy and has worked at Hillcrest Medical Center in the Alexander Burn Center since 1992. Volunteering at Burn Camp since its inception in 1999, Jenn served as a counselor for 9 years. In 2006 she took on the role as Assistant Director, who’s primary function is to recruit and manage the volunteers and counselors. Additionally, with her connection to the Alexander Burn Center, she is able to help find kids for camp.
Larry Bowles, Chaplain – Retired from the Tulsa Fire Department where he served as both a Captain and a Chaplain. After many years on the line, he became the voice of TFD when he promoted to become the Public Information Officer. Larry lives out his faith by using his musical talents to write, play and sing Christian music. His “Chaplain” duties are highlighted when he provides the message for our Burn Camp Church Service held on Sunday Morning. I must let it be known that Larry is the prettiest man I know!
Jon Wintle, Logistics Officer - was raised in Owasso, Oklahoma. After graduation, Jon joined the Army where he jumped out of airplanes and lived in Korea for a year. In his last year in the Army he was stationed in Louisiana. After four years of Army life and two years of National Guard, Jon decided he wanted to follow his father’s footsteps and become a Firefighter. In 1996 he got married, moved from Louisiana back to Owasso, started a family and began his career with the Tulsa Fire Department. In 1998 Jon became one of the first ten Tulsa Firefighters to become a paramedic through the Tulsa Fire ALS Program.
In 1999, Jon became a counselor at the first Burn Camp. After five wonderful years as a counselor, he was asked to take the position of Director of Logistics for the Burn Camp E-board. During this time Jon has held three golf tournaments to raise money and has done countless television interviews on the Burn Camp. Additionally he serves on the Tulsa Fire Department honor guard, has taught CPR, volunteers at his church and plays golf at every charity golf tournament he’s invited to.
Jon’s still living in Owasso, married to the love of his life and has two beautiful daughters. He intends to have many years of involvement with the Burn Camp, which he considers one of the most important things to be a part of.
Barry Molencupp, Production Officer – Serves as a Driver/EMT-I for the Sand Springs Fire Department. Barry coordinates and participates in the various activities around camp and also the TATUR Mud Run. He began his camp career by helping Scotty to take our campers to the Arkansas Burn Camp prior to starting ours here in Oklahoma. Although he has lost that wonderful head of hair, he continues to exercise his wit and humor on all he meets. By the way, hair is highly overrated! More information on Barry soon. . .
Tom Wintle, Was announced as a E-board member at camp this year. I will be gathering more info. on Tom and updating it at a later time. I can say for certain that he will be picking next years movie and that he is the old guy on the board, not Larry.
