Camp dates for the 2012 Oklahoma Firefighters Burncamp are August 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. More details to follow.
Each year we leave camp with a heart full of new memories and our eyes filled with tears. We all look anxiously forward to the first day of camp, knowing all to well how we are going to feel in five short days. The passion we carry for this camp is undescribeable and can only be understood if you are present. For most of us, this is the best five days of the year. As the campers and counselors begin to arrive, you instantly know that this is a very special event. The smiles, the laughter, and the tears of joy fall in copious amounts as we all embrace and begin catching up. With the addition of several new campers and counselors this year, camp was the best ever! We had a tie between Jeremiah(7) and Hunter (10)for the boy’s camper of the week. The girls camper of the week was Glenda(14). A Tulsa firefighter we refer to as “TowerGuy” was selected as male couselor of the week and nurse Michelle was selected as female couselor of the week. Both the facility and the faculty at Dry Gulch U.S.A. were great as always! The Wii tourney at the full size I-Max movie theater was a blast. Also, let’s not forget to mention the mechanical bull and mechanical roping horse. These new activities are in addition to the usual activities like horseback riding, go-carts, waterpark, arcades, fishing tourney, wake boarding, scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, talent show, karaoke, dance, ect. Oklahoma Firefighter’s Burn Camp is looking for boats to use during our camp. Boating activities will include boat rides, lake tours, fishing, tubing and wakeboarding. The boating event will take place on Saturday, August 20th on beautiful Lake Hudson. A free breakfast will be served to all boater and fishing volunteers. The 2011 Tatur Mud Run, sponsored by Shadow Mountain is scheduled for August 6 – 11am to 7pm. This year there will also be a “TATUR Tots” run and a costume contest. The “TATUR” organization is a true friend of OK FF Burn Camp, as proceeds from this run are given to assist in the cost of running our camp. Oklahoma FF’s Burn Camp has decided to merge our golf tournament with the Tulsa Metro Fools Golf Scramble. The tournament will be held at Emerald Falls Golf Course – 30510 E 63rd St, Broken Arrow – on May 12th. The 4-Man Scramble structured tourney will have a shotgun start at 9:00 am and will have ample prizes for winning teams, longest drive, closest to the pin, and numerous door prizes. Lunch will also be provided. Proceeds will benefit Oklahoma Firefighter’s Burn Camp as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Cost is $280 per team, which covers green fees and two carts. If you like to help others, and have a heart for kids then OK FF’s Burn Camp would love for you to consider becoming a counselor or volunteer. After much planning and coordination with our camp host, the 2011 camp dates are now official. Please mark your calendars for August 17th – 21st. This year promises to be another great experience for all who attend the 13th Annual Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp. Stay tuned for further information regarding this year’s camp theme.
The 2010 TATUR Mud Run is set for Saturday, August 21. Proceeds from the event go to OK FF’s Burn Camp. This great event brings out the kid in all of us as contestants frolic in the mud. New this year is the TATUR TOTS Kids Mud run. Visit our friends at Tatur.org for more information!
